Alex Hallahan's music is a melodic embrace to recline your weary soul upon. ''A voice with both fragility and confidence, a songwriter with enormous depth and variety.' - John Carver PBSfm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I had a restless heart or perhaps a restless start, early on... oh, I was productive, you wouldn't say that I was aimless at all, it's just that I was a bit of a firecracker going off in all directions at once. Lucky for me though, I eventually found myself when I began writing and later performing music. That I found my way there was actually a bit of an accident, but I'd say that it was an accident waiting to happen. As too many people are aware, some accidents take a devastating toll on your life, I've had those experiences too, but this particular accident put a lot of things into perspective, in fact it was the big bang which created my world. It must have been planned a long time ago, well before I was born. Here are some things that I've noticed about myself of recent (please share some of yours with me some time). - I'm most comfortable when I know that I have a pen or pencil and spare paper in my bag and two picks (plectrums) in the back pocket of my jeans. - I can't breathe under water but I wish that I could, this could be because I'm a Piscean or perhaps it's just because i love the sea so much. - I love playing live in a front bar because it gives me a kind of licence to watch the people go about their bar room rituals and makes me have to work for their attention. - I've had a beard for four years. I grew it while I was reading Jack London's novel 'The Call of the Wild' during which time I said that I was growing the beard because I wanted to howl at the moon. This is still true. - There is a butterfly that lives out the front of my house. It flies around me in circles every day. I find myself thinking that it's the reincarnation of someone I once knew. - I've shown strength at times and weakness at other times, always in the most unlikely places and this surprises me to no end, no matter what though, eventually I find myself smiling at how abundantly human I am. - I'm thirty two, but often mistakenly think that I am older. - I have been with my beautiful girl for longer than I haven't. - I'm extremely conscious of the weather patterns, to the frustration of those walking with me I often stop in awe of the cloud formations and the colour of the sky. - I write songs because I can't help it and doing it makes me truly content, it's as though I pull the plug and let the bath water out. So here we meet. I'm writing this introduction whilst sitting in the hot sun shaded by the clothing swinging in the autumn breeze above me on my clothesline. Melbourne is beautiful in autumn. Best to you, Al
