Profil personnel

Pranab and a huge Floyd fan, Swapnil Bhumkar, met online and found that they had similar tastes in music. So, early 2005 they came together to form the basis of Prayag. And when Viru, Sumit & Pasha joined in, the rivers had merged – Prayag was formed! The band’s music aims to be spiritual as well as sensual, rocking as well as thought provoking, kick (you-know-what) as well as soothing. Like the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna & the Saraswati, we are about influences from different shores intermingling to create a new sound that experiments freely with soundscapes, defies genre barriers, and yet is as uniquely Indian as it is rooted in rock. They don’t believe in hatred. They believe in the power of music, to heal, to touch, to provoke, to speak to you – And to change lives. A Prayag show is a kaleidoscope of improvisation, virtuosity and scintillating entertainment.

Profil de l'entreprise

The band: Swapnil Bhumkar: Bass He is the innovator, the out-of-the-box thought astronaut. Through the years of performing in and around Bombay, he has kept his ears open to music from all genres, though he would love few things more than a heart to heart with Roger Waters. Pranab Gohain: Vocals His goal is to write and sing songs that absorb the essence of the many places he has traveled to. Originally from Assam, this U2, Coldplay, Don Mclean, and Junoon fan is the engine of the band. He loves Nusrat as much as he loves Eddie Vedder. Bangs his head to metal and can listen to Bhimsen Joshi for hours. Virendra G Kaith: Drums and percussions Familiar in Bombay rock circles as a 27-year-old drum prodigy, Viru has played with a wide variety of bands. From Trilok Gurtu to Steve Gadd to Dennis Chambers, he loves anything to do with rhythm, be it metal or Mississippi blues. And he can do a mean mix in the studio as well. Sumit: Lead guitar A jazz-rock and blues freak, Sumit is originally from the City of Joy. He swears by the likes of Carlos Santana, John Mclaughlin, Pat Metheny, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Amyt Datta, among many, many other six-string prophets. Prasad: Guitar and backing vocals This multifaceted musician is as comfortable belting melodies on the keyboards and classical guitars as he is with playing power-packed riffs and singing along with the band.
