Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor (Morgan James Peters) is a multi-facetted, multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, musician and producer of soul, jazz and EDM; as well as a member of the powerhouse soul-funk-blues band, The GroovaLottos. He is a fifth generation musician, who began as a viola player at age ten; playing at Carnegie Hall before he turned 14; attending Music & Arts high school; at 16 becoming one of the youngest session players in EMI Records history; and earning his BA in Music from Boston University. The studio has been Mwalim's primary environment as a band director, vocal coach, session player, and producer in New York and New England. Winner of the 2010, 2012, and 2014 Urban Music Awards for Jazz and a multi-category top nominee in the Native American Music Awards, Mwalim is a five-time recipient of the Ira Aldridge Fellowship, a winner of the Osborne Fellowship, Yen Fellowship and numerous other grants and awards in music and media production.
